Modern and Foreign Languages at Millbrook
Intent for MFL
Our intention is for children to develop an interest in learning other languages and embrace other cultures. The introduction of another language in an enjoyable and stimulating way, encourages confidence and creative skills. We will also aim to develop an awareness of the structure of a foreign language through developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Modern Foreign Language (MFL)
At Millbrook Primary School our choice of foreign language is Spanish. We believe that every child should be given the opportunity to acquire understanding in a modern foreign language. They will be taught a measure of fluency in the language, communication and pronunciation. They will also be taught how to engage in short and long conversations with their peers and other partner schools.
How we teach MFL
Every class from year one to year six receives Spanish lessons every week. This lesson is taught by our by the class teacher or the PPA teacher. We follow a programme of study using Language Angels, which is in line with the National Curriculum.
Children are given the opportunity to engage in practical learning using concrete resources. They are encouraged to express their language acquisition amongst themselves.
